Help » Builder » Shop Builder

The shop builder is the main section where you build up your shops catalogue with department, products and articles. The first page you get to is essentially the home page of your site so whatever you add here will get added to your shops home page.

The shop builder works in a hierarchal structure so works as you see it. If you add a department to the shop builder page, the department will get added to your main navigation. Now if you want to add a sub-department, click on the department you have just created, then create a new department. The same process also works for products and articles. If you click on a product you have just created then add another product, that product will become associated to the original product (May we also suggest) and the same principle applies to articles.

Associate Products & Articles

Now before we go on to creating new departments, products and articles, you will notice some global options which are associate products and articles. Associating products and articles means you can grab an item from one location and also associate it to another location. For example you could have one product in the men’s clothing section and also in a sale department. It’s also a useful tool for moving products or articles around you shop to re-organise them. Simply click on the associate button and you will be presented with a list of departments on the left. Now click on the department and all products/articles within that department will appear in the right hand panel. Now select the product/article you wish to associate and click on associate item(s).

Departments

Title

This is where you enter the name of your department.

Status & Description

From here you can turn the department on or off and set whether you want this department to only be visible to members only (users that have registered on the site). You can also enter a short description which appears when users do a site search and the long description which appears at the top of the department page. You can enter text which explains what the department is about and even upload banners.

Layout

Tradingeye enables you to have different layouts (header/navigation/footer) and templates (body section of the page) for each department. From here you can select which layout/template you would like to use. This feature is really useful as you could create a blue layout for Men's clothing and a pink one for Women's. You will also notice a product list template which if products are associated to that section, will appear as one long list with the posibility of adding one or all of them to the shopping cart.

Images

From this section you can upload images over your department name. Image A will appear in your main navigation while image B would appear over your sub-department link. This could be a logo of a supplier or simply an image to spruce up your navigation.

Search Engine Optimisation

The search engine optimisation section enables you to add your own file name (URL) for your department and also add your Meta title, description and keywords. If you don’t have time to fill this section in you can leave it empty and default values will be entered for you from your global Meta tags which can be found in Settings -> Global Settings -> Text Areas -> Home Page.

Options

From this section you can select if the product is taxable, whether its on sale, if any product options or volume discounts apply and if you want to sell the item by adding an add to basket link and also an enquire now option which will pass the product value to a contact form which is then emailed to the site administrator.

Product Attributes (if enabled)

If products attributes are enabled, this section lets you select which attributes are to be used for this product.

Layout

Tradingeye enables you to have different layouts (header/navigation/footer) and templates (body section of the page) for each product. Tradingeye enables you to sell digital goods such as MP3's, .zip's or even PDF documents. Simply upload a file and when a customer buys the product, a download link will appear in the invoice.

Stock Control (if enabled)

The stock control feature (if enabled) lets you set the stock for each product, allow back orders (i.e. to enable you to sell in minus figures), how many products are on order and their due date.

Postage & Supplier

This is where you can enter your postage and supplier options. Firstly you can select which postage code applies to this product (if enabled). You can also enter the item weight (if using postage by weight), enter any notes for the product (e.g. next day delivery), whether the product should have free postage and also associate a supplier to it which would a) add a supplier logo above the product and b) enable you to use the shop by brand feature (if enabled).
